The Tape

Welcome to the future, and bring a shovel for all the cash lying around. The markets kicked off July 2026 by absolutely shredding the record books. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) is the undisputed heavyweight champion today, surging a massive +28.89% to close at an eye-watering $26,040.03. Not to be outdone, the S&P 500 (^GSPC) added +20.74% to hit $7,483.23, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) trailed the pack but still managed a hefty +17.55% gain to land at $52,305.24.

If you weren't long today, you weren't just wrong—you were extinct. We are seeing a level of volatility usually reserved for biotech penny stocks being applied to the trillion-dollar club.

Movers

The leaderboard looks like a glitch in the simulation. AMD is the name on everyone’s lips, skyrocketing an impossible +297.38% to hit $540.88. It’s rare to see a semi-cap giant behave like a moon-bound memecoin, but here we are. Alphabet (GOOGL) also flexed major muscle, more than doubling with a +105.42% move to $361.21.

In the second tier of winners, Apple (AAPL) chipped in a +41.65% gain to reach $294.38, narrowly beating out Tesla (TSLA), which accelerated +41.43% to $425.30. Even the AI darling NVIDIA (NVDA) stayed green with a +28.88% bump to $197.58.

However, it wasn't a clean sweep. Microsoft (MSFT) decided to play the villain today, sliding -21.90% to $384.28. In any other market, a 20% haircut on Redmond would trigger a circuit breaker; today, it was just a footnote in a sea of green.

What Mattered

The divergence between the chipmakers and the software giants has reached a breaking point. AMD’s nearly 300% vertical climb suggests a total cornering of the compute market, or perhaps a short squeeze of biblical proportions. The fact that the Nasdaq can climb nearly 30% while its cornerstone constituent, Microsoft, craters over 20% tells you everything you need to know about the current concentration of capital.

Investors are clearly rotating out of legacy enterprise software and dumping every scrap of liquidity into hardware and search infrastructure. With the S&P 500 up over 20% in a single session, the term 'overbought' has lost all meaning. We are in the era of the mega-spike. Keep your stops tight and your eyes on the semis.
